PE-65 with pressure switch and vacuum system

Zambelli Peristaltic Pumps

  • Variable Speed Frequency Drive on all units. Local and Remote controls [forward/reverse, stop/start, and speed].
  • Reversible
  • Hose is lubrication-free.
Food grade hose is lubricated during manufacturing and does not need periodic lubrication.
  • Rotating aluminum rollers reduce friction and extend hose life
  • Pressure compensators on both inlet and outlet eliminate 'knocking'
  • Optional pressure switch
  • Optional hoppers for must/pomace
    Choose between integrated and free-standing.
  • Optional vacuum for greater flow; particularly useful with must/pomace
  • Optional Dual Level Float control for hopper

Peristaltic pumps are the most gentle of wine/must pumps. The product is simply pushed through a rubber hose. There is no impeller. The product contacts only the hose. The hose is periodically compressed and relaxed, thus pushing the product.

St. Patrick's is the exclusive North American distributor of Zambelli peristaltic pumps.

PE-65 Double with double-auger Hopper. Optional Dual-level float control (two probes with red top mounted in hopper) turns pumps on/off as needed.

Rubber hose is compressed by rotating aluminum rollers mounted on bearings for minimum friction. The rubber hose is lubricated at the factory with food grade lubricant and does not need periodic lubrication. Housing and roller supports are made of 304 stainless steel.

Options

Pressure Switch $250
For all units. Adjustable. Prevents backflow through pump (when pump is turned off) up to 35 psi. Since a peristaltic pump is simply a hose when it is not operating, liquid can simply flow in reverse direction if the head pressure in the receiving tank is greater than in the serving vessel. This pressure switch keeps the pump under pressure to prevent this.

Dual-Level Float control for hopper $550
Shuts pump on/off as hopper is filled/emptied.

Vacuum system for PE-30 and PE-50 $1200
Vacuum System for PE-65 and PE-85 $1425
Vacuum System for PE-65 Double and PE-85 Double $2125

Vacuum system increases the flow rate. It is particularly useful when pumping must or pomace. Must and pomace pumping rate can be increased up to 35% with this option. Vacuum also increases priming depth to 26'.

Optional Vacuum System mounted to stainless steel housing.

Integrated Hoppers
Integrated hoppers connect directly to the pumps---inlet flange of pump is bolted to outlet flange of hopper. These are the hoppers listed with the pumps above. Stainless steel hopper and auger. Motor with gear reduction.
Takes ~15 minutes to attach/remove the hopper.
Hopper dimensions: 32"x30"x17"H.
3" TriClamp outlet.

Emme 120 Hopper $1295 in stock
Free standing on wheels. 3" TriClamp.
Connects via hose to any of the pumps.
0.5 HP, 230 V, 60 Hz, 3- phase.
Dimensions
. 15" H x 34" x 37"

Consideration in choosing hopper. It takes ~15 minutes to attach/remove the integrated hopper from pump. Emme 120 is simply attached with hose clamp. Compensator on input to pump cannot be used when using the integrated hopper. It is very easy to move pumps with either integrated or Emma hopper.

  • Bypass can be opened to reduce the flow by ~25%. Bypass is not very important on variable speed pumps. A bypass is a stainless valve and tube that connects the output of the pump to the input. Bypass should not be used when pumping must.
  • Hydraulic Transmission. Please note the lowest speed is zero which differentiates these pumps from pumps with mechanical transmissions (which look nearly identical). Speed is adjusted by turning dial on side of motor.
  • Coaxial means the pump is driven directly by the motor.
  • Dry Run Protection: This is a flow sensor that shuts off the pump when flow stops. This guards against burning up the impeller. Particularly useful when feed rate is non-uniform. [Another approach to 'Dry Run Protection' is a temperature sensor that shuts off the pump at elevated temperature. Temperature sensor requires more careful attention and therefore more prone to user error than flow sensor.]
  • Remote on Freq Drive (-FD) pumps have ON/OFF, Forward/Reverse, and Speed Control. These controls are also on the box attached to the pump cart.
  • Remote on Euro-60-MVI-R has ON/OFF and Forward/Reverse. You must change speeds by turning the knob on the transmission at the pump.
  • Barrel Filling Accessory below is a pressure sensor.

Barrel Filling Accessory for Euro-30 $295 in stock

Pressure Switch System to turn pump On/Off as barrel filling nozzle is Open/Closed. Please note: Barrel Filler Nozzle is sold separately.

This accessory is attached to the outlet of Euro-30 pump. When the barrel filling nozzle is closed, the power to the pump is turned off. When the barrel filling nozzle is open, the pump will turn on.

  • This will work with any valve in addition to barrel filler.
  • 1.5" Triclamp
  • Easy to connect to any 230 V, single phase pump.
  • Built-in Check Valve prevents backflow when pump is off.
  • There is no connection between the barrel filling nozzle and this accessory.

Flexible Impeller Pumps
Flexible impeller pumps are a type of Positive Displacement Pump. They can pump wine with seeds and skin. They operate at low rpms with low shear forces and thus do not damage wine.

Self-priming pumps do not require that you fill the suction line. However, it is advisable to add a cup of water to the pump housing in a flexible impeller pump. The reason is to prevent the rubber impeller from overheating which can destroy it. Do not run a flexible impeller dry for over 30 seconds.

How a flexible impeller pump operates. At first glance, flexible impeller pumps appear to be centrifugal pumps in which a high rpm impeller uses centrifugal force to move liquid. However, flexible impeller pumps are Positive Displacement pumps in which alternating high and low pressure is generated within the pump head. The insertion of a small plate in the pump head (at the top of the picture at right) makes an eccentric cavity that creates alternating pressure differential as the flexible impeller is compressed and then released, thus priming the juice or must into the cavity. Since the pump does not rely on centrifugal force, the rpm can be low (in fact can be almost zero), and therefore does not apply shear force to the must or wine.

Diaphragm pump with Inline Filter

Diaphragm Pump with INLINE Filter $135
Pump matches very well with Filling Machines with Dual-Level Float Control. Read more here.
(A 6-spout filling machine requires 3-4 GPM operating at maximum rate.)

  • Max Flow: 4.5 GPM
  • INLINE Filter is included
  • 115 V Magnetic Drive Motor, 1.5 Amp
  • Built in Pressure Switch automatically starts and stops pump (45 psi cut-out, 30 psi cut-in)
  • Can run dry without Damage
  • Inlet/Outlet Ports: 3/4" Hose Barb--plug-in for easy connect/disconnect
  • Self-Priming up to 8'
  • Maximum Liquid Temperature 130° F
  • No metal contact with liquid

INLINE Filter is supplied with each diaphragm pump. You cannot allow particles over 50 micron to enter the pump---they will clog the check valves. Simply open and clean the screen as needed. Be sure to attach the filter to the inlet of the pump, not the outlet.
InLine Filter $20
This is included with our diaphragm pump. This will fit other brands of similar pumps--including those with 1/2" and 3/4" fittings.

This type of diaphragm pump is used ubiquitously in soda machines worldwide. They are on-demand pumps. When you fill your cup with pop, the pump starts up then shuts down when you release the fill lever. They are reliable, inexpensive and are gentle on wine. However, they are intermittent, not continuous, duty motors, so should not be used continuously for extended periods. There is no precise duty cycle, but a good rule of thumb is 50%. For example, on a filling machine in which you bottle about 2.5 gallons/minute (12 bottles/minute), then a 5 gallon/minute pump will operate at 50% duty cycle. In this case, the pump should last a very long time.

Do not use with high alcohol (>40%) or highly acidic solutions. This includes vinegar and acidic cleaning solutions. Flush pump with clean water after use and after cleaning.
