The machine destems first with the centrifugal destemming basket, then crushes the grapes thru rubber rollers. The rollers are adjustable from the outside of the machine. Maximum roller spacing is 0.43", larger than most vinifera wine grapes, to allow for minimal crushing. |

16 Gallon Apple Shredder $1295
The apple shredder has stainless steel slicing blades (see photo). The chopped apples then pass through a stainless steel grate with 9/16" holes. The apples cannot leave the chopping area until they are small enough to pass through the grate. Most chunks are much smaller than the hole diameter. |
Basket Guard info. Most berries will fall out of the destemmer basket before they reach the outlet end. However, this will depend on several factors including the grape type, berry size, condition of fruit and stems, speed of operation, and cage hole size. If this is the case, the last section of the basket is not really doing anything and can result in jacks dropping through. The Basket Guard covers the last ~25% of the basket and prevents this. But please be aware that you may see some berries lost (brought out the end with the stems) if you use the Basket Guard. It takes about 15 minutes to assemble so you can quickly test and remove again if necessary.
Please also note that the greatest cause of jacks is running the destemmer unevenly. There will always be more jacks when the destemmer is not full of fruit (because some stems are just flopping around in the basket and getting broken up). You will always have more jacks on top of the fruit after desemming than in the bulk. This can be minimized by stopping the destemmer quickly when the fruit is run through.
